Deutsche Bahn Awards Contracts for High-Performance Riedbahn Network

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has contracted four companies to work on the renovation of the Riedbahn line between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim to establish a high-performance network.

This pilot project will be the first in DB and the federal government’s plans to deliver high-performance networks across Germany with improved reliability and capacity.

Following a Europe-wide tender, Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG, Spitzke SE, Swietelsky Baugesellschaft mbH and Siemens Mobility GmbH have been selected to complete the required construction work along the 70-kilometre route.

This work will be divided into two lots, with the first covering the section between Frankfurt/Main and Biblis and the second between Biblis and Mannheim. Construction is expected to take five months.

The renovation will include the renewal of around 120 kilometres of tracks, 150 switches, 140 kilometres of overhead lines, and all control and safety technology. In addition, DB will modernise all 20 stations along the route and will install more than 15 kilometres of noise barriers.

This project will support DB’s Strong Rail strategy, which aims to double the volume of passenger transport and increase the market share in rail freight transport. To achieve these goals, it must deliver infrastructure that can handle more traffic.
