Shanghai Metro has awarded Alstom’s Chinese joint venture (JV), Shentong Bombardier (Shanghai) Rail Transit Vehicle Maintenance (SHBRT), the contract to provide whole life-cycle maintenance for 204 Movia metro cars on its Line 12 phase 2 and phase 3 projects.
The vehicles were provided by another Alstom Chinese joint venture: Changchun Alstom Railway Vehicles.
SHBRT was awarded the first full fleet metro maintenance contract in China in 2016, when it was chosen by Shanghai Metro to provide 12 years of maintenance service for Line 12’s metro cars.
This latest agreement is a supplementary contract to that made six years ago and is valued at roughly 43.6 million euros (49.43m USD).
The new contract covers preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, balanced overhauls, safety inspections, train cleaning and train escort services for Shanghai Metro’s Line 12 fleet of 34 trains.
“Alstom is delighted to be selected by Shanghai Metro to provide whole lifecycle maintenance service for Line 12.
“We will focus on maintaining our high performance and are confident that our experienced joint venture team will provide reliable service and contribute to seamless operations for our customer as well as passengers in Shanghai.”
A number of advanced maintenance tools will be deployed by SHBRT, including Alstom’s Orbita advanced train monitoring system. These will help improve the safety, reliability, availability and efficiency of the fleet.
The project is expected to be completed in November 2027.
