Bombardier to Supply CITYFLO 650 CBTC on KVMRT

A consortium of Bombardier Transportation and Global Rail Sdn. Bhd. has been contracted to supply its CITYFLO 650 the train control and signalling system for the second line of Malaysia’s new Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) network, connecting Sungai Buloh, Serdang and Putrajaya, in the greater Kuala Lumpur area. It will also supply platform screen doors.

The six year contract was signed with the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MRT Corp), the owner and developer of the KVMRT project. The contract is worth €95 million. Bombardier’s share of the contract is worth €48 million. Bombardier will supply its BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) solution. The system allows for driverless operation. Bombardier will install onboard equipment onto 58 vehicles.

Global Rail will deliver the PSD, including automatic platform gates and the signalling system for the line.

The works will be undertaken in parallel to works by project delivery partner MMC- Gamuda JV, who will deliver the civil works packages.

BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650

Bombardier and Global Rail were also contracted to deliver CITYFLO 650 technology for Line 1 of the KVMRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang line, which will begin operating passenger services from July 2017. By 2022, the KVMRT network, which will by then consist of three lines, is expected to transport around one million passengers every day, reducing car traffic and noise emissions and improving productivity and quality of air in the city.
