With a maximum speed of 200 km/h; the trains offer seating for up to 270 passengers across their three carriages, as well as dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, strollers and real-time information systems.

The trains, which were awarded the Red Dot Award in 2025, aim to integrate contemporary interiors and Nordic functionality with advanced technology and a strong focus on sustainability. Each unit is equipped with energy-efficient systems, including regenerative braking, and is capable of operating in tough environmental conditions, such as 80cm layers of snow, as well as temperatures as low as -40°C.

Maria Signal Martebo, Managing Director of Alstom Sweden, said:

This order marks an important new step in Västtrafik's fleet modernisation programme and illustrates how Alstom supports customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their assets, from train delivery to long-term maintenance and operational performance.

Together, we are helping deliver greater capacity, reliability and sustainability for passengers across western Sweden for decades to come.

The first Avelia Stream Nordic trains were delivered in spring 2026, following several months of testing on the network. They are now in operation on the regional rail network in Västra Götaland, with further deliveries of the fleet set to continue over the coming years.

In addition to the supply of Avelia Stream Nordic units; Alstom will also perform maintenance on the Västtrafik train fleet, which currently comprises both new trains and older generation rolling stock. Alstom will seek to ensure high availability and long-term operational reliability across the region, and, once all 80 new trains have been delivered, they will form the backbone of Västtrafik’s regional rail services.
