German light rail vehicle manufacturer HeiterBlick has presented a tram intended for use in Würzburg during InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin.
The tram on display, which is based on the company’s TWIST 3.0 + SWING 3.0 platform, is one of an order of 18 trams initially agreed for delivery with Würzburg transport authority WVV in December 2019.
Designed as a fully low-floor vehicle; the tram features dedicated spaces for strollers and wheelchairs, as well as facilities for the blind. The vehicle is capable of travelling a minimum of 3000 metres with the use of stored onboard energy reserves, and its use of modern insulation material, dampeners on the wheels, and elimination of heating elements in the passenger components are intended to reduce its overall noise pollution.
The tram is constructed with lightweight materials in order to reduce energy consumption, and features a modern drive system based on silicon carbide (SiC) technology, which seeks to enable lower energy requirements and higher efficiency.
Overall, the five-section tram is capable of carrying up to 76 seated and 147 standing passengers, and is equipped with comprehensive passenger information screens, full air-conditioning and a set of 20 USB charging sockets.
Four of the 18 vehicles have completed a battery of tests in Würzburg, and are now awaiting the results of the certification process.
HeiterBlick was pulled from the brink of insolvency earlier this year following its acquisition by Polish rolling stock manufacturer Pesa Bydgoszcz.
