UK rail to benefit from TEN-T funding
The European Commission has announced which 74 projects will receive a share of the Trans-European Transport Network’s funding pool of almost €200m.
The fund, which is intended to support transport improvements throughout the EU, will allow member states to invest in transport systems during dire economic times.
Continued support
The European Commission commented,
“The European Commission continues to support the construction and upgrade of European transport infrastructure to ensure its citizens can reap the benefits of a complete, safe and modern network”.
British rail projects selected
Projects selected for funding include the electrification of North West England lines, as well as rail freight upgrades from Southampton to the West Coast Main Line.
The funding will provide almost every EU member state with the finance for upgrades. In addition to this, ‘multi-country’ projects will also be supported.
