The Sydney Metro City project has announced a target opening date of 4 August, providing the city with a new section of the M1 Northwest & Bankstown Line.
This launch is subject to the successful completion of trial runs, system performance tests and final regulatory approvals.

The extended Metro North West metro service stretches 15.5 kilometres from Chatswood to Sydenham, spanning below the harbour and under the Sydney CBD.
The project includes new underground stations at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Gadigal and Waterloo, alongside new metro platforms at Central and Sydenham.
With the launch, fast and reliable trains will arrive at each station every 4 minutes during peak times.
Once the new City section of the line is operational, Sydney Metro will close the T3 Bankstown Line for up to 12 months to also complete metro conversion works for its Southwest project.
