Sydney Metro Completes Waterloo Station on City & Southwest Line

Sydney Metro has finished construction on Waterloo Station, making it the first new station to be completed on the new city section of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.

This achievement follows four years of work to transform the 25-metre-deep station box into a brand-new station.

The new station can now be handed over to network operators, Metro Trains Sydney (MTS) to undergo final preparations. Before it opens to the public, the operator will complete a range of testing and commissioning exercises and scenarios at the site.

Waterloo Station is the first of six new stations on the city section to complete its construction programme. The remaining five stations will be handed over progressively.

Once it opens later this year, around 18,800 passengers will pass through Waterloo Station each day. The station precinct includes a new plaza, pedestrian walkway, bike parking and new pedestrian crossings.
