Stadler to Provide 17 Co’Co’ Electric Locomotives for LTG Cargo

Lithuanian freight operator LTG Cargo has awarded Stadler a tender for the supply of seventeen Co’Co’ electric locomotives.

The agreement, which includes an option for an additional seventeen EURO9000 Co’Co’ units, spare parts and maintenance, marks Stadler’s first foray into the Lithuanian market.

The initial agreement includes an option for a further 17 units of the same model

Designed for temperatures as low as -40ºC, the Co’Co’ electric units measure in at 1.520-meters, providing 500kN of maximum tractive effort and are capable of speeds of up to 120km/h.

Iñigo Parra, Executive Vice President Stadler Division Spain, said:

“We are very proud of this new development of our EURODUAL family, which allows us to introduce our cargo locomotives in Lithuania for the first time. This new locomotive shares the same high performance with the rest of the family, promoting a modal shift to rail.”

The units also come equipped with proprietary electric brakes as well as automatic coupler SA3s and a full winterisation package in order to tackle local conditions.

Each vehicle features a drivers cab on each end, video surveillance equipment and onboard restroom facilities.

Eglė Šimė, CEO at LTG Cargo, said:

“The purchase of electric locomotives marks the start of a new era of even more sustainable and reliable rail freight transport in Lithuania. The new electric locomotives will transport freight between Vilnius and Klaipėda - a corridor that carries half of all rail freight in Lithuania annually.

“Electric locomotives are about three times more efficient than diesel locomotives, so we can offer our customers greener and more competitive freight transport services.”
