Stadler US will establish itself as a standalone division within the Stadler Group, effective 1 January 2025.
The move, approved by the Board of Directors, reflects the rapid growth and strategic importance of Stadler’s operations in North America.
Martin Ritter, currently CEO of Stadler US, will lead the new division and join Stadler’s Group Management Board.
“I am delighted to have been asked to run Stadler US as a division in its own right. The decision to make the US a separate entity demonstrates the importance of this location for the entire Stadler Group. It is down to the tremendous commitment of all the employees here in Salt Lake City, and I would like to thank everyone for their dedication. I look forward to taking on the new challenges and continuing to grow the north American market.”
Stadler’s journey in the US began with the establishment of its Salt Lake City headquarters in 2016, following a significant order for diesel-electric FLIRT trains from Trinity Metro in Texas.
Since then, the company has expanded its footprint, employing over 500 staff and complying with the Buy America Act, which mandates that at least 60% of the value for federally funded projects be generated domestically.
The facility in Salt Lake City is undergoing further expansion, allowing for increased production capacity, including local car body manufacturing. These upgrades align with Stadler’s ambitions to meet the growing demand in the North American rail market.
Over the past two months, Stadler secured key contracts, including an order for four diesel-powered FLIRT DMUs from Trinity Metro and up to 80 new streetcars for Salt Lake City.
Stadler’s diverse product portfolio in the US already includes GTW, KISS, and hydrogen-powered FLIRT models, underlining its strong market presence.
The creation of the independent North America division now aims to strengthen Stadler’s market position and foster continued growth.
“Stadler has enjoyed significant growth over recent years. We are now strengthening the location to underscore the importance of this market. Martin Ritter is an experienced leader with a proven track record, and he will head the new North America division. I wish him and the whole team every success.”
