Stadler to Present CITYLINK Tram-Train at InnoTrans 2024

At InnoTrans 2024, Stadler will present the first complete CITYLINK tram train ordered by a German-Austrian consortium for the ‘VDV Tram-Train’ project.

In 2022, Stadler was selected by a group of six transport companies to supply up to 504 vehicles for the ‘VDV Tram-Train’ project.

The vehicles will be delivered to VBK – Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe GmbH, AVG – Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft mbH, Saarbahn Netz GmbH, Schiene Oberösterreich GmbH, Schiene Salzburg GmbH and Zweckverband Regional-Stadtbahn Neckar-Alb.

The complete train will be exhibited for the first time at InnoTrans 2024. The display unit will later be used by Saarbahn, which will be the first operator to put vehicles into operation.

The tram-train is equipped with advanced traction, signalling, radio, communication, and passenger information systems.

It is based on the common CITYLINK platform, enabling a largely standardised design while accommodating the specific needs and infrastructure conditions of the six different transport companies.

Each vehicle is delivered in a three-part design, with customisable features such as the number of doors, boarding and coupling height, and exterior coating based on the customer’s requirements and delivery location.

Elements like air conditioning for both passengers and drivers, as well as the LED lighting system, are standard across all trains. All CITYLINK vehicles also include a spacious multi-purpose area designed for accessibility, providing space for bicycles, pushchairs, and luggage.

The Saarbahn vehicle showcased at InnoTrans is a bidirectional model measuring 37 metres long and 2.65 metres wide. The interior accommodates 100 seated and 133 standing passengers and, like all CITYLINKs, is capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h.

This model will be one of eight vehicles on display by the manufacturer at the event, alongside a range of signalling and service solutions.
