Škoda Group to Modernise 6 ÖBB Nightjet Couchette Coaches

Škoda Group has been awarded a contract to modernise six Nightjet couchette coaches for ÖBB in Austria.

This work will be carried out at the Škoda production site in Šumperk for delivery by 2024.

Jan Christoph Harder, President Region West at Škoda Group said:

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this contract by ÖBB and to have the opportunity to modernise their couchette coaches. We have years of experience in the field of service and modernisation and we'll deliver products to enhance the passenger experience. Austria and the wider region West are very important markets for our group, and this contract further strengthens our commitment to the region.”

In addition to the modernisation of six comfort couchette coaches, the contract also includes an option to modernise an additional 28 units.

The modernisation work will deliver more comfortable beds, improved lighting and updated bathrooms, as well as a new barrier-free – accessible – compartment.

This contract builds on Škoda’s existing experience with night coaches, having also recently been awarded a contract to produce nine sleeping coaches and eight freight wagons for VR Group in Finland.
