The Riyadh Metro, a central element of the capital’s long-term transport strategy, has been named “Mega Project of the Year 2025” for the Middle East and North Africa region at the MEED Projects Awards.
Developed by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the Metro is regarded as a major component of Riyadh’s wider urban development programme. The project’s recognition reflects its role in reshaping how residents move around the city and its contribution to ongoing efforts to expand public transport.

The MEED judging panel carried out a detailed assessment of submissions from across the region. The panel noted the Riyadh Metro’s engineering approach, technical solutions, construction management and integration with sustainability objectives. The project’s scale, multi-line network and coordination across several contractors were highlighted as key factors in its selection.
The MEED Projects Awards are widely used as a reference point for evaluating infrastructure performance in the region. The annual programme reviews projects across a range of sectors, focusing on delivery standards, innovation, environmental outcomes and the impact on surrounding communities.
