From 8 September 2025, Renfe will operate all high-speed services between Madrid and Barcelona using its AVE model.

The change means that Avlo trains currently serving the route will be replaced by AVE trains, while maintaining the same number of frequencies and schedules.

Passengers who have purchased Avlo tickets for dates after 7 September will be transferred to AVE services under the same travel conditions. Any passengers who paid for seat selection on Avlo will receive a full refund of this charge.

Renfe has decided to withdraw its Avlo S106 units from the Madrid–Barcelona corridor as part of a reorganisation of its service offering. According to the company, the AVE product is more suited to the route, particularly for corporate travellers who frequently use this corridor. AVE services include wider seating and additional space, aimed at improving comfort.

In addition, AVE trains on the route will offer services not previously available on Avlo, such as a cafeteria, on-board dining, and a quiet carriage. Premium services will also be available, including access to club lounges and extended dining options.
