Prague to Host Railway Interiors Conference and Expo

The 11th annual Railway Interiors Conference and Expo will take place at Prague Letnany Exhibition Centre from 4–5 November. Get the full brochure here.

The world-renowned exhibition will host more than 2000 industry delegates from around the globe, making it a unique opportunity for networking. Visitors will include rail operators, design consultants and carriage-manufacturers, who will get the chance to showcase cutting-edge technologies and innovations from over 80 leading companies.

Key individuals from nearly every major railcar manufacturer internationally will be at the Expo, in addition to guests from mass-transit operators, to see the latest developments in seating and materials, lighting, washroom facilities and flooring, as well as composites, infotainment systems and security innovations.

There will be presentations from Hitachi Rail Europe, UK and DCA Design Consultants on the Class 800 train interiors, the German Aerospace Centre will talk on innovative lighting concepts, specifically on double-decker trains. Passenger experience will be a key theme of the conference, including enhancement of brand perception, superficial and real comforts, space design and innovative problem solving in order to satisfy complex cultural issues.

A focus will also be on interior designs, including case studies from the SBB Twindexx Express from Bombardier and Luis Chomiak Design, SAR Arabias coaches for CAF, and the experience of London Underground as they put out calls for tender for a fleet of new trains.

The conference will hear from representatives from BORCAD cz s.r.o., of the Czech Republic, Bose AG, Idesign Sweden AB, Spirit Design, TRB Lightweight Structures, DB Heavy Maintenance, Salex ES, Mormedi, TRA Consulting, Almadesign, E Leather, Jones Garrard Move Ltd, RLE International Inc, 42 Technology, as well as speakers from Vienna University of Technology.

Some highlights of the show will include Icomera and Simac Techniks new on-board infotainment platform and Icomeras X6 hardware for on-board internet. Crepim will be displaying its laboratory service which develops, qualifies and guarantees materials as fire-safe. Romeo Seating, a division of STA2000, will show its innovative low-weight high-strength steel seating, Farbo Flooring Systems will showcase the latest in textile carpeting.

Metawell will be exhibiting its aluminium sandwich panels which are low-weight high-rigidity and sound-reducing and may be insulated, ideal for carriage ceilings. Nora will be displaying its self-adhesive flooring systems, while Gerber will be showing off its Edge Production System including a thermal printer, software and plotter.

Breakout sessions will focus on more specific issues such as material development, with case studies on fire safety checks, the technical aspects of rolling stock EN 45545-2, accessibility issues, safety aspects such as crash-safety and evacuation modelling tools and security including safeguarding against terrorism. Other topics covered in the breakout sessions are infotainment and passenger information systems in order to enhance the passenger experience.

Day two of the breakout sessions will look at materials and composites, high-strength, low-weight innovations and bonding solutions. It will also look at the role of IT in the manufacture and maintenance of carriages, as well as new materials in soundproofing and heat-loss reduction, as well as sustainable methods and materials for production.

The conference will allow plenty of time for networking, with a drinks reception on Wednesday evening. It promises to be a great opportunity for anyone working within the industry to catch up with existing colleagues and to meet new ones.
