NordWestBahn Begins Modernisation of S-Bahn Fleet

NordWestBahn has modernised the first of its Alstom Coradia Continental trains ahead of the start of its new regional S-Bahn transport contract, which comes into effect in 2022.

The train, with its updated livery, has been operating in the Bremen area since the beginning of August.

The train operating company (TOC), which is part of the Transdev Group, plans to gradually convert and modernise its other 34 Coradia Continental trains from January 2023.

Ulrich Ehrhardt, NordWestBahn’s Managing Director said:

“The converted vehicle offers a great taste of what our passengers can expect from 2023 on the entire regional S-Bahn network. With this state-of-the-art technology we can hopefully convince many more people of the comfort and advantages of the regional S-Bahn in particular, but also of local rail transport in general.”

The conversion of the trains includes a modern video surveillance system, energy-efficient LEDs, tinted anti-scratch films and numerous sockets. New paintwork in the Transdev design and new interiors including a colourful family table with a children’s puzzle, will complete the picture.

The hygienic standard is also being significantly increased. The trains will have disinfectant and fragrance dispensers in the toilets as well as particularly resistant powder coating systems on the handrails.

Passenger accessibility is also been optimised, with the installation of a floor guidance system for visually impaired passengers, door buttons with a finder tone and improved access to the spacious multi-purpose area for prams, wheelchairs and bicycles.

In the future, WiFi including 5G pre-equipment and a new passenger information system will also be available.
