METRO debuts new generation of more accessible railcars

The new cars have been designed with an open seating plan and almost four feet of aisle space to improve passenger flow and better accommodate wheelchairs, strollers and passengers with bicycles.

This is METRO Houston’s fourth procurement of LRVs since it opened the Red Line in 2004 with 18 rail cars.

The units will each go through extensive qualification and safety testing and will travel 1,000 miles before entering service.
