Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe spoke to us about the joint project smart rail lubrication systems, making Leipzig’s trams more quiet and at the same time enabling more efficient operation and maintenance of the systems.

Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe and Goldschmidt are collaborating to realise smart rail lubrication systems for the Leipzig tram network. These digitally integrated systems not only offer the well-known advantages of rail lubrication systems, such as lower noise emissions and reduced track and wheel wear, but also enable the systems to be operated more reliably and efficiently.

Customer voices - Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe: digital rail lubrication systems for trams

The systems are connected to the Dari platform from Goldschmidt, allowing faults or low levels of lubricant to be reported directly to the technical teams. As a result, maintenance work can be planned and is much more efficient, as the teams have to turn out less often and only when necessary.

We spoke to Stefan Röll, Head of Infrastructure at Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, about how the cooperation came about, the collaboration on the project and how the systems will specifically provide support.
