At InnoTrans 2024, Stadler will present a firefighting and rescue multiple unit, which is being built for ÖBB Infrastruktur AG on behalf of Rail Equipment GmbH.
This Servicejet vehicle has a trimodal electric hybrid drive that can be powered with energy from overhead contact lines, onboard underfloor traction batteries, or diesel.
This ensures its reliability and allows it to operate independently in smoke-filled tunnels.
In an emergency, the rescue train can accommodate over 300 people. It will effectively protect passengers from smoke gases thanks to the pressurisation of the entire train set and its air conditioning system, which is equipped with special filters.
For firefighting, the train carries 40,000 litres of water and 1,000 litres of foam compound on board. This can be discharged via powerful extinguishing systems at either 10 bar or 100 bar.
The two-part train has a length of 68 metres. It is accessible throughout and can travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h in both directions.
Alongside being designed for emergencies, the Servicejet will also be used for regular service and maintenance work.
It has enough power to tow damaged trains weighing up to 2,000 tonnes or to supply a defective train with electricity, even without an overhead contact line.
This model will be one of eight vehicles on display by the manufacturer at the event, alongside a range of signalling and service solutions.
