Alstom has celebrated the commencement of revenue operations for the next phase of the Indore Metro Yellow Line.
For its part, Alstom’s contract with Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) included the delivery of 52 Movia metro trainsets, as well as 15 years of comprehensive maintenance services, including 7 years maintenance of the signalling train control, and telecommunication systems.
In line with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives; Alstom’s solutions for the Indore line have been developed, manufactured and delivered solely within India across six industrial sites and five major engineering centres.
The Indore Metro Yellow Line spans a total of 31.5km and features 16-stations covering the 16.72km currently in operation. The Yellow Line utilised 10 Alstom-equipped trainsets, operates at Grade of Automation 1 (GoA1) with Automatic Train Protection (ATP) on the mainline, and is supported by the Gandhinagar Depot and Test Track.
Thus far, Alstom has delivered 23 out of a promised 25 trainsets to Indore, and has stated that it will continue to execute on its delivery commitments, reinforcing its long-term partnership in transforming the mass transit landscape of Madhya Pradesh.
Each of Alstom’s metro trainsets has been designed and manufactured at Alstom’s rolling stock manufacturing facility in Savli, Gujarat, and are capable of operating at speeds of up to 80km/h. Operating in a 3-car configuration; the units can accommodate 144 seated and 981 standing passengers, maximising available space for wheelchair users, and are powered by traction systems equipped with regenerative braking, reducing overall energy consumption.
Onboard Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS) are integrated with an automatic track inspection system, whilst security is enhanced by continuous CCTV surveillance, intelligent features such as unattended object identification and empty train detection, and direct communication channels with the train operator and the control centre.
In order to manage passenger demand, maximise throughput and optimise operational efficiency, Alstom has equipped the Indore Metro with Urbalis Forward, its next-generation CBTC signalling system. Installed on 190 metro lines in 32 countries, the system aims to ensure safe, fluid, and high-frequency train operations with minimised wait times.
