Hitachi to Acquire Bombardier’s Contribution to the V300 ZEFIRO from Alstom

As part of the merger agreement between Alstom and Bombardier Transportation, which concluded in January, the European Commission required that certain assets would be divested to avoid competition concerns.

Just last week Alstom announced it was divesting its Reichshoffen site as well as its Coradia Polyvalent and TALENT3 platforms to CAF.

Now, Hitachi will acquire business activities related to Bombardier Transportation’s contribution to the V300 ZEFIRO very high-speed train from Alstom.

This train, manufactured together with Hitachi Rail Italy, was purchased by Trenitalia and now operates in Italy as the Frecciarossa 1000. Bombardier Transportation and Hitachi Rail also made a joint bid for the HS2 rolling stock based on this platform.

Hitachi Rail said this transaction consolidated its commitment to the very high-speed rail market.

Alstom said it would continue to honour its obligations under existing rolling stock orders from Trenitalia and ILSA to ensure a seamless transition.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first half of 2022.
