Greenbrier to Build 100 Intermodal Twin Wagons for GBRf

Greenbrier will manufacture 100 60′ intermodal twin wagons for GB Railfreight (GBRf). Rolling stock company Porterbrook will purchase the wagons and lease them to GBRf as part of an agreement between the two parties.

Greenbrier will deliver the first batch in August 2022 and supply ten wagons per month after that so that all 100 units should be on the tracks by summer 2023. Porterbrook will dry-lease the wagons to GB Railfreight for an initial ten years.

John Smith, Managing Director, GB Railfreight, said:

“I am delighted to be partnering again with Porterbrook, a company at the heart of the UK’s rail network, on this exciting project. At GBRf, we always look to work with leading companies in the transport sphere and we couldn’t ask for a better partner than Porterbrook. By working together we are proving that our sector continues to combine innovation and resilience which will be vital as we move towards more sustainable modes of transport.”

Porterbrook also said they were pleased to continue their 15-year relationship with GBRf and were happy to be supporting rail freight, which supports modal shift to rail.
