Go-Ahead Deutschland orders Stadler FLIRT3 EMU

Go-Ahead Verkehrsgesellschaft Deutschland have ordered 45 FLIRT3 multiple units from Stadler Pankow. The order consists of 11 three-car, 15 five-car units, 9 four-car and 10 six-car Stadler FLIRT3 EMU will operate on the the Stuttgart Network 1, Lot 2 (Rems–Fils) and Lot 3 (Franken–Enz).

The fleet will operate on the Stuttgart–Aalen–Crailsheim, Stuttgart–Ulm, Stuttgart–Aalen, Stuttgart–NBS S-MA–Pforzheim–Karlsruhe, and Stuttgart–Heilbronn–Osterburken–Lauda–Würzburg routes. The Stuttgart 21 rail project, set to open in 2019, will also enable greater connection on the route and enable passengers to make a complete journey without having to change trains.

The Stadler FLIRT3 EMUs which will run on the Stuttgart Network 1 will be fitted with TSI SRT regulation safety features, as well as fire protection category B. The Stadler FLIRT3 EMUs which will operate on Lot 3 will be equipped with an additional train security system (LZB) and will be adaptable to ETCS Level 2 train security system when the system is rolled out on the network.

The three and six car FLIRT3 EMUs all have a maximum speed of 160km/h, with high drive performance. They are universally accessible with barrier-free access and low floors throughout. The passenger area is equipped with gap-bridging and sliding steps. They offer first and second class areas, with 20 seats in first class split between each end of the train. There are 165 second-class seats (in three-car trains) and 329 seats in the six-car trains.

The trains have TSI PRM regulation toilet cabins, and a large, multi-purpose area for passengers with bicycles, large luggage and pushchairs. The cutting-edge design also features a modern passenger information system and on-board WLAN. The interior and exterior livery all feature the three lions of the Baden-Württemberg regional transport company.
