The Alstom Citadis Spirit class LRVs will run on Toronto’s Finch West light rail transit line, which is due to open in 2023.

Each weighing 81,000 kilograms, the vehicles have a seated passenger capacity of 120, and a maximum passenger capacity of 292. When operational, the service will run every five minutes during peak hours.

The first LRV was delivered this summer, and both were transported to the MSF from Alstom’s Brampton facility in two sections. Their arrivals, however, did differ.

This is because the site team directed the trailer pull in front-first on this occasion, whereas the first LRV had been backed in. Unfortunately, this did cause some challenges and delays, but the MSF’s new shunter, lovingly named the ‘little beast’, successfully manoeuvred the LRV through the yard.

The two parts have now been joined and inspection of the major subsystems is currently underway.

LRV testing will start at low speeds of approximately five kilometres per hour. The  vehicles will then be transferred to the MSF’s burn-in-track section, where they will be tested for 600km without defect.
