Israel Railways Issues Notice to Proceed for Supply of 36 TRAXX Locomotives

Israel Railways (ISR) has issued a notice to proceed for the supply of 36 additional TRAXX locomotives as part of a framework agreement it signed with Bombardier Transportation (now Alstom) in 2015 for the supply of 62 electric TRAXX locomotives (as well as 74 double-decker coaches in 2019).

Israel Railways and Bombardier Transportation signed a framework agreement for the supply of 62 TRAXX AC3 locomotives with a top speed of 160km/h in September 2015. The agreement included an option for a further 32 units. So far, Alstom has supplied ISR with 27 TRAXX locomotives. These next 36 locomotives are to be delivered between April 2023 and October 2024. The locomotives will primarily haul Israel’s Twindexx Vario double-decker passenger coaches, which have been in service in the country since 2002.

Alstom will deliver the locomotives at a rate of two or three locomotives per month. They will be maintained by ISR at its Lod depot, while Alstom will provide warranty services support.

The locomotives are powered with 6,000kW traction for ISR’s electrified network of 25kV 50H.

Eran Cohen, Managing Director, Alstom Israel Cluster, said:

“We thank ISR for providing Alstom the notice to proceed for the supply of additional 36 locomotives. Alstom is extremely proud to continue taking part in ISR electrification and green evolution. Our ISR Traxx electric locomotives are the best in class proven reliable and green mobility solution. We look forward to continue delivering these locomotives along with ISR to reach our mutual objectives of higher operational performance, lower infrastructure costs and higher availability and reliability of service.”

Alstom operates six sites in Israel.
