Bombardier Wins Contract to Supply Light Rail Vehicles

Bombardier has signed a contract with the cities ofDsseldorf (Rheinbahn AG) and Cologne transport authorities (KVB) to supply them with 62 FLEXITY light rail vehicles. The contract is split between the transport authorities. KVB is to receive 20 vehicles at a value of approximately 64 million and Rheinbahn AG is to receive 42 light rail vehicles at a value of 127 million. Rheinbahn AG has the option for 16 additional vehicles.

Bombardier FLEXITY Light Rail

The light rail vehicles will replace the existing fleet of Stadtbahnwagen Bs in the cities ofDsseldorf and Cologne. The vehicles are to be manufactured in Bombardier’s site in Germany.Dsseldorf’s vehicles are scheduled to be delivered between 2017 and 2020, while Cologne are scheduled between 2020 and 2021.

Dirk Biesenbach, CEO of Rheinbahn AG said, We are delighted that we have managed to carry out this tender in cooperation with the Cologne Transport Authority. Together we are acquiring modern and attractive vehicles for Dsseldorf and Cologne.

Jrn Schwarze, CTO, KVB added, The contract has been awarded based on the most economical offer. Particularly worth mentioning are the low lifecycle costs and easy maintainability. We are convinced to have chosen the most cost efficient and cost effective solution.
