A brand-new train bogie overhaul workshop has opened at Tallawong, Western Sydney.
The workshop has been purpose build to provide the heavy maintenance capabilities required to keep metro trains up to running standard, whilst also creating 20 new skilled jobs.

Currently, 45 trainsets operate between Tallawong and Sydenham, with those that entered service during Metro’s opening in 2019 having travelled more than 900,000 kilometres – and half of the fleet set to notch up 1.2 million kilometres later this year.
The workshop will handle the full disassembly, inspection and repair of the trainsets, with technicians on hand to check key subsystems including traction motors, gearboxes, brakes and wheelsets.
Any worn components such as bearings, seals and rubber elements will be replaced before trains undergo testing ahead of returning to service.
The new workshop is intended to primarily support Sydney Metro operations, but will also be capable of servicing other compatible projects, with a Sydney Light Rail brake overhaul project already confirmed.
