Alstom and Vingroup, through its member company Vinhomes, have signed a new agreement to design and manufacture up to 83 five-car Metropolis trains, as well as a technology license to support the assembly of 117 additional trains in Vietnam for urban rail projects in Hanoi.
Each of the 83 Metropolis trains will be designed and manufactured at Alstom’s Valenciennes Petite-Forêt site in France, whilst the remaining 117 trains will be assembled in Vietnam by Vingroup and using components delivered by Alstom.

The agreement was signed at Vingroup headquarters in Hanoi in the presence of Martin Sion, CEO of Alstom and H.E Mr. Didier Le Bret French Ambassador in Vietnam, and aims to highlight a growing strategic cooperation between France and Vietnam in infrastructure, innovation and sustainable development.
Martin Sion, Alstom CEO, said:This agreement is a major milestone for Alstom in one of the fastest-growing mobility markets in the world. By combining Alstom's global expertise with Vingroup's industrial strength and long-term vision, we are creating a unique partnership that supports both the expansion of Hanoi’s metro network and the development of local rail capabilities.
This agreement also demonstrates the strength of French rail technology and reinforces Alstom’s position as a trusted partner for major mobility projects across the region.
Alstom and Vingroup’s partnership announcement comes as Hanoi aims to accelerate the development of its urban rail network. The capital city intends to build a modern, integrated and sustainable transport system under its Capital Master Plan, which suggests a 100-Year Vision including the development of a 979-kilometre urban rail network consisting of 18 lines by 2045.
