Alstom has signed a new 90 million USD contract (approximately 80 million EUR) with Metro de Panamá S.A. (MPSA) that will see the company provide long-term maintenance services for Metropolis trains currently operating on Lines 1 and 2 of Panama City’s metro network.
The contract covers the maintenance of 235 metro cars, and is expected to ensure consistent, reliable service for the hundreds of thousands passengers using the network each day.

Alstom will carry out major maintenance service and long-term overhaul activities for the Metropolis train fleet operating on both Lines 1 and 2. The scope of the contract includes scheduled maintenance interventions at five-, six-, eight-, ten-, and twelve-year intervals, and will cover critical systems and components such as bogies, traction equipment, brake systems, pneumatic systems, wheels and auxiliary equipment, as well as other assets critical for operational safety.
Bernard Peille, Vice President of Alstom for Latin America, said:This contract reinforces the trust that Metro de Panamá places in Alstom’s technology, expertise, and long-term commitment to the country. For more than a decade, Alstom has supported the development of modern, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions in Panama.
We are proud to continue contributing to the reliability and performance of a metro system relied upon by millions of passengers every year.
This new agreement is anticipated to further strengthen the existing strategic partnership between both Alstom and Metro de Panamá, as well as reflect the company’s wider commitment to the continued growth and modernisation of the country’s urban mobility infrastructure.
Currently, Metro de Panamá carried around 400,000 passengers per day, and plays a crucial role in the country’s economic and social development.
