Alstom Renews Contract to Operate and Maintain Denver Airport APM

Alstom has signed a contract with Denver International Airport to continue the operation and maintenance of the automated people mover (APM) for a further seven years.

The APM system, which operates Alstom’s Innovia APM R vehicles and first-generation Innovia APM cars, measures 1.2 miles in length and connects the distant concourses with the main terminal.

The new contract will run from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2032 and is valued at EUR 218 million.

Alstom says it will retain 91 employees to fulfil this contract. Specifically, Alstom employees will provide round-the-clock maintenance and operations for the APM system.

The maintenance includes the track, power and electrification, signs, signals and station platform doors as well as the communications system.

The contract scope also includes cleaning services for both the interior and exterior of the vehicles, tunnel floor cleaning, pressure washing and floor drainage, cleaning of facilities and the platform screen doors as well as the collection and disposal of hazardous waste.

Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, said:

“Alstom is proud to be Denver International Airport's partner of choice as they continue on their journey to modernise and expand air train service at one of the busiest airports in the world. Our expertise in the operations and maintenance of automated people movers allows us to deliver frequent, safe and comfortable service for travellers from around the world.”

Alstom’s Innovia APM 300R vehicles went into passenger service at Denver International Airport in July 2024. The automated people mover system opened at the same time as the airport in 1994, when the vehicles were provided by Bombardier Transportation. Since Alstom’s acquisition of Bombardier Transportation, Alstom has taken on the APM segment.

Matthew Robb, Senior Vice President of Technical Operations for Denver International Airport, said:

“Denver International Airport's new operations and maintenance agreement with Alstom is one of many steps we're taking to enhance the reliability and passenger experience of the train that moves people between the terminal and concourse. As a growing airport, it's crucial that we provide a consistent service, especially as we continue our work toward accommodating 100 million annual passengers.”
