Trenitalia Orders Up to 50 Stadler Dual Locomotives

Stadler and Italian national rail operator, Trenitalia have signed a 4-year framework agreement for the supply of up to 50 EUROLIGHT Dual locomotives, with an initial firm order for 13 units.

The agreement also includes the full maintenance of the locomotives for a period of 10 years, which is extendable for two additional periods of 5 years each.

The bi-mode locomotives will be able to operate using 3kV DC electric current on electrified sections of the railway or using diesel fuel.

They will be deployed across the entire Italian railway network for train rescue and passenger push-pull services, operating at speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour. Their reduced axle-load ensures they are suitable for running on both main lines and secondary lines.

Iñigo Parra, CEO of Stadler Valencia said:

“We are very proud of this contract with Trenitalia. The EUROLIGHT family of universal locomotives have a multitude of applications and can run on all types of lines. The innovative and cost-effective solution will provide environmentally friendly rail transport services and meet the demands of Trenitalia reliably, efficiently and productively.”
