From 1–3 August 2025, Nomad Digital proudly joined our parent company Alstom at The Greatest Gathering, a once-in-a-generation celebration marking 200 years since the birth of the modern railway.
Held at Alstom’s historic Litchurch Lane Works in Derby, the sold-out event welcomed nearly 40,000 visitors, showcased over 140 rail vehicles, and transformed 90 acres into a vibrant festival of rail heritage, technology, and community.

Widely described as the “Glastonbury of rail”, the event brought together enthusiasts, families, industry leaders, and innovators to honour the past and look boldly toward the future.
The Journey to the Event
Adding to the nostalgic charm of the weekend, visitors were transported to and from the venue aboard beautifully preserved vintage buses. These heritage vehicles, lovingly maintained by enthusiasts, offered more than just a ride — they became part of the experience. For many, the journey evoked memories of a bygone era and perfectly set the tone for a celebration rooted in transport history.
A Deeply Personal Connection
For Nomad Digital, the celebration held special significance. The original Locomotion No. 1, built by Robert Stephenson and Company in Newcastle upon Tyne — where Nomad Digital is proudly headquartered — was displayed alongside a modern Class 720 Aventra EMU, built in Derby.
Locomotion No. 1 famously hauled the first train on the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825. It was the first locomotive to haul a passenger train on a public railway, marking the dawn of the modern railway era.
This powerful pairing symbolised the journey from steam to smart mobility and reflected our role in shaping the future of rail innovation.

Our Team’s Unique Perspective
Nomad Digital’s Marketing team attended the event, experiencing it both behind the scenes as staff and on the ground as visitors.
This dual perspective offered a full appreciation of the passion, dedication, and collaboration that made the event possible. From engaging with attendees to exploring the exhibits, our team left inspired and proud to be part of such a historic moment
Engagement and Discovery
The Greatest Gathering was packed with interactive and engaging experiences for all ages. Visitors explored zones like the Model Railway Village, featuring over 20 displays including Pete Waterman’s record-breaking layout; the STEM Hub, where children participated in hands-on engineering workshops; and the Mobility Theatre, which hosted inspiring talks from rail historians and industry leaders including Christian Wolmar, and Pete Waterman.
Live music, street performers, artists such as Tim O’Brien and a traditional funfair added to the festival atmosphere, while the food village offered a wide range of options for all the family, making the event as much about community and culture as it was about rail.
Titan the Robot and the Festival Vibe
Adding futuristic flair was Titan the Robot, who entertained crowds with a mix of humour, dance, and tech. His presence captured the spirit of innovation and made the event truly unforgettable for visitors of all ages.
The Legacy and the Road Ahead
As the dust settles on an extraordinary weekend, what remains is a deep sense of pride and admiration. The Greatest Gathering wasn’t just an event; it was a heartfelt celebration of rail’s enduring legacy and limitless future. From steam engines to smart mobility, from curious children to seasoned engineers, the passion that powered this festival was noticed in every conversation, every exhibit, and every smile.

For Nomad Digital, it was a privilege to be part of something so meaningful, where history met innovation, and the entire rail community came together to celebrate the journey of rail.
