The Digital Transformation – Challenges and Opportunities
As businesses and consumers we all now live in a world where we appreciate and use the increasing benefits we’re offered from the digital transformation. It applies to the rail industry just as much as any other.
As consumers we can enjoy more convenient ticketing and free wifi on trains and at stations. Rail industry members meanwhile can use digitalisation to become more efficient and make themselves more attractive. Digital signalling is just one example. It allows trains to run closer together, thereby increasing capacity on the track.
Cyber Security in Rail
However, that also means that the rail industry has to make itself resilient to these new cyber security threats. We spoke to Alzbeta Helienek, Lead Systems Engineer at Thales, to talk cyber security in rail following Thales’s presence as lead co-sponsor at the 2nd Annual Rail Cyber Security Summit that was held in London on 14–15 March.
Please look forward to reading this interview on railway-news.com next week.
Digitalisation
We also caught up with Matt O’Donovan, CEO of WiFi Spark, to hear about his experience providing a wifi platform to Chiltern Railways and the current and potential exciting applications big data has for train operating companies, station managers and other players involved in the rail industry.
You will be able to read this interview on our website in April.
