Hitachi Rail has celebrated the launch of the brand-new Sanying MRT Line, which officially entered revenue service yesterday, 30 June 2026, as announced by the New Taipei City Government.
Passengers travelling through 31 August 2026 will receive free travel in recognition of the line’s opening.

Delivered with major contributions from Hitachi Rail; the Sanying Line represents a major milestone in the expansion of New Taipei City’s metro network.
At 14.29km and comprising 12 stations, the line connects the districts of Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge, and aims to both improve connectivity and reduce travel times to Central Taipei and New Taipei City by up to 20 minutes.
Gabriel Koe, Senior Director of Projects & Sales for Taiwan, Indonesia and Philippines, Hitachi Rail, said:, said:This significant achievement represents the second major systems turnkey metro project successfully commissioned in Taiwan, the first being Taipei Circular Line Phase 1 which was opened on January 31st 2020 and reinforces Hitachi Rail’s footprint and commitment to improving and modernizing the rail infrastructure of the major cities of Taiwan.
New Taipei City’s first self-developed medium-capacity MRT system; the project seeks to combine cutting-edge technology with modern passenger-focused design, and features enhanced safety features, advanced train systems and multilingual ticketing services.
From today (1 July 2026) onwards, services will operate daily between 10:00 and 20:00, with intervals of approximately six minutes during peak periods and eight minutes off-peak. After the trial phase, full service is expected to extend from 6:00 a.m. to midnight.
The addition of the Sanying Line expands New Taipei City’s MRT network to 108km and 90 stations in total.
