Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ) has contracted Stadler Signalling to modernise signalling systems at Tavannes station and Orange depot in the Bernese Jura.

This 4.3 million CHF agreement forms part of a wider project to upgrade the Tavannes-Le Noirmont line by 2027.

The initiative involves deploying advanced electronic interlockings to improve safety and punctuality in rail operations.

Chemins de fer du Jura, in partnership with the federal government and cantons, is making significant investments to modernise its rail network. These investments include enhancements to tracks, overhead lines, and train control systems. Upgrading electronic signal boxes is a central element of this effort, ensuring improved safety, punctuality, and the foundation for future network developments.

Under this agreement, the latest-generation EUROLOCKING interlockings will be installed at Tavannes station and Orange depot, building on Stadler’s previous installations at several other CJ stations.

These modern systems promise a safer and more reliable experience for passengers, supporting compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG).

Stadler has already completed similar work on stations including Bellevue, Saignelégier, and Vendlincourt. Once the upgrades at Tavannes, Orange, and Tramelan stations are complete, half of the safety systems on the Tavannes-Le Noirmont line will have been modernised.

Marc Trippel, CEO of Stadler Signalling said:

I am very pleased that we can build on our collaboration with Chemin de fer du Jura and renew the signalling technology in more stations. This contract demonstrates Stadler’s contribution to the modernisation of rail transport in the Bernese Jura and represents the expansion of Stadler Signalling in the Swiss signalling technology market.
