The initial order is for 286 vehicles, valuing approximately two billion Swiss francs (1.85bn euros | 2.15bn USD). The contract is to be concluded after the 20-day objection period has expired.

The vehicles will be manufactured entirely in Bussnang, with a share of around 75 percent of value added for Switzerland.

Peter Spuhler, Stadler’s Executive Chairman of the Board, said:

We're proud that our proven FLIRT concept has once again achieved international success. We would like to thank SBB for the trust they have placed in us.
