At InnoTrans 2024, Stadler will display a battery-electric version of its FLIRT Akku train.
To date, Stadler has sold over 2,500 of its Fast, Light, Innovative Regional Train (FLIRT) models worldwide.
The unit set to be displayed at InnoTrans is one of 44 vehicles ordered by DB Regio. These trains will be put into service on the southwest German Palatinate network to replace diesel models.
The FLIRT Akku can run under a catenary on electrified sections of track. While on the catenary, it also charges its traction batteries, enabling it to switch to battery power when the catenary ends.
The battery has a specified range of at least 80 kilometres, as well as an optional reserve. Energy is also recovered every time the vehicle breaks.
The train has a top speed of 140 km/h, while its air-sprung chassis ensures a smooth ride for passengers.
The two-car FLIRT Akku for the Palatinate network is 55.5 meters long, making it slightly longer than the standard FLIRT to guarantee passenger capacity. It can accommodate a total of 325 people, with 172 seated.
The multiple unit is fully air-conditioned, equipped with WLAN, and has spacious multifunctional compartments in each boarding area.
This model will be one of eight vehicles on display by the manufacturer at InnoTrans, alongside a range of signalling and service solutions.
