Swiss rail manufacturer Stadler has marked its 10th anniversary in the US with the opening of an expanded manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. This investment increases production capacity and is expected to create up to 300 additional jobs.
The expansion adds 245,000 square feet of manufacturing space, bringing the total size of the site to 475,000 square feet. The new facilities include a welding hall, blasting booth, assembly hall, expanded warehouse and an electrical pre-assembly hall.

The investment will support growing demand across North America while increasing manufacturing capacity at Stadler’s Utah operation.
Martin Ritter, chief executive of Stadler North America, said:This milestone reflects not only how far we’ve come over the past decade, but also our long-term commitment to building trains, creating jobs, and investing in American manufacturing.
A celebratory event on 1 July was attended by representatives from government and industry, including Swiss President Guy Parmelin, who highlighted economic and innovation links between Switzerland and the United States. Representatives from the Federal Railroad Administration and the State of Utah also took part in the ceremony.
During the event, Stadler also held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new CNC production hall. The facility will house computer-controlled machinery used to cut aluminium side, floor and roof panels before they move to the welding stage of production. The project represents the next phase of the company’s expansion at the site.
Stadler began operations in Utah in 2016, initially working from a leased facility before opening its permanent manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City in 2019. The company currently employs around 750 people at the site.
The Salt Lake City facility manufactures trains for rail operators across the United States, including Caltrain in California, Metra in the Chicago area, TexRail in Fort Worth, Texas, and MARTA in Atlanta.
