The work, which is expected to take 36 months, will take place between Karrantza and Bilbao La Concordia and Aranguren and Balmaseda.

It will focus on repairing, settling and improving areas along the tracks which could be affected by adverse weather such as heavy rain.

The slopes will be profiled and refined, plus workers will also repair or replace enclosures in sections where the slope is steep.

The work will also include removing any invasive plant species or large trees that may affect the line, in addition to old track materials.

Adif is also looking to tie in this work with that of network electrification.

In the next few months, it will choose a partner to review and update the contact overhead line between the Aranguren and Karrantza stations and the Karrantza substation, in order to commission the electrification of this section of the network.
