Hitachi Rail and Tobu Railway’s jointly developed Series N100 SPACIA X has been awarded the 2025 Red Dot Award for Product Design by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany.
A limited express train; the SPACIA X first began operation on 15 July 2023 and connects Asakusa with the Nikko and Kinugawa areas.

The train shares DNA with the conventional Series 100 SPACIA, and was developed to represent a more refined flagship experience.
Previously recognised with the Good Design Award in 2023; SPACIA X was praised in the Product Design category for its integration of regional characteristics, architecture, culture and atmosphere, marking the seventh award for the train thus far.
Each train is capable of seating up to 212 passengers and includes 6 different seat options for passengers including a Cockpit Suite, Cockpit Lounge, Compartment, and Premium Seat.
The train also offers original craft beer and craft coffee developed with companies in Nikko, and is decked in livery designed in-house by Hitachi with colouring evoking a white hue reminiscent of the Gofun painted on the Yomeimon Gate, Karamon Gate and main sanctuary of Nikko Toshogu Shrine.
