Siemens Mobility has reached a milestone for its Vectron locomotive: it has sold its 1,000 unit. The anniversary locomotive will go to Danish State Railways, who ordered a total of eight AC Vectron locomotives.
Siemens Mobility delivered the first Vectron locomotive back in 2012. Since then it has received orders from 49 customers in 16 countries. All Vectron locomotives have been manufactured at Siemens Mobility’s site in Munich-Allach, Germany.
“The sale of the 1,000th Vectron is a success that underscores the long-standing trust and satisfaction of our customers. Designed for operating throughout Europe, the Vectron enables cross-border transport without changing locomotives. They create transport corridors across borders, ensuring efficient, ecofriendly and reliable European rail transport.”
The Vectron locomotive hauls both passenger and freight trains. It is available as a purely electric version, either using AC or DC current or as a MS version. They have a power output of 5.2 or 6.4 megawatts. For freight operations, Siemens Mobility also offers the Smartron locomotive and the Vectron Dual Mode, a combined diesel and electric locomotive, both of which the company presented in 2018.
“We are strongly focused on our ability to ensure sustainable public transport with proven electric-based platforms in our modernization of DSB’s rolling stock fleet. We are, of course, looking forward to receiving all the Vectron locomotives we have ordered from Siemens Mobility, and the fact that we will receive locomotive number 1,000 shows that it is possible to establish standardized and off-the-shelf products in the railway industry.”
Vectron locomotives are certified for operations in the following countries:
With this current order for 8 AC Vectron locomotives, DSB will have a fleet of 42 Vectron locomotives. It ordered its first 34 AC Vectron locomotives in 2018 and 2019. Danish State Railways will use them for passenger rail operations in Denmark. Siemens Mobility will begin delivering on this order in late 2020.
