Work is now underway to install platforms at six new metro stations on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line.

Metro platforms are already in place at Bradfield Station, whilst the island platform at the Airport Terminal Station is now roughly 50% complete.

Platform installation forms a key milestone for the project

The Airport Terminal’s platform will serve as the largest on the line at 95-metres-long by 10-metres-wide, double the width of the platforms found at Gadigal Station, with its installation expected to take around 25 days to complete and necessitate the use of a 60-tonne crane to lower a total of 119 precast concrete segments to the station floor.

The station is expected to not only be the largest, but the busiest on the line and feature wider platforms, large lifts and widely spaced ticket gates.

Platform installation began last week at Airport Business Park and Orchard Hills stations, with work to form main station structures continuing across all station sites and track laying underway in the north and south tunnels, in addition to the viaduct near the Warragamba pipelines and the stabling and maintenance facility.

A total of 14,000 workers have contributed to the construction of the project thus far, with 3,o00 workers currently on site.
