Geotechnical investigations have begun as part of preparations for major improvements at Sunshine Station in the west of Melbourne.

Crews on-site have commenced both the testing of soil and locating of underground utilities which are set to inform both the design and construction of two new platforms at Sunshine Station.

The increased capacity is expected to enable the support of more than 40 trains per hour in the future on a set of new tracks.

Planning consultation has also commenced, with locals urged to have their say as part of the process.

Procurement is underway following a recent online briefing for construction industry representatives, with a new construction alliance set to be established to deliver the project’s package of regional line works.

Remaining works packages will be delivered by the existing Level Crossing Removal Project delivery alliances.

The Sunshine Superhub will form the first stage of the implementation of Melbourne Airport Rail, as well as make way for the electrification of the Melton Line.
