Paddington Tube station’s new Bakerloo line ticket hall has now opened, offering step-free access from street to platform via two lifts.
The new hall is over three times the size of the previous one, with 11 ticket gates compared to the previous five, thus helping to speed up journeys. The facility also features improved signage and a modern design to further enhance the customer experience.

The hall sits beneath a new 18-storey mixed-use building in Paddington Square, a hub for work, shopping, and dining.
Previously, customers with accessibility needs had to use a longer, indirect route via the Elizabeth line lifts. Now, the new hall provides a much quicker and easier way for all passengers to access the Bakerloo line thanks to two new lifts.

Paddington station is one of London’s busiest stations and an historic and vital part of London’s transport infrastructure. I want everyone to be able to use it, so I’m delighted that the new ticket hall will give the Bakerloo line direct step-free access for the first time.”
The hall was built on the site of a former Royal Mail sorting office, requiring the diversion of a main sewer and construction work extending 26 metres below ground.
The project was carefully coordinated to ensure continued operation of existing station assets during construction.
