The 96 million GBP funding package for Liverpool Baltic Station has been approved as part of Mayor Steve Rotheram’s ongoing efforts to improve rail access across the Liverpool City Region.
A planning application will now be submitted to Liverpool City Council in October with the aim for construction to begin next year. The station is then expected to open by 2027.
Liverpool Baltic Station will be located on Merseyrail’s Northern Line.
The plans include modern features such as step-free access from the street to the train, passenger waiting facilities, accessible toilets, and secure cycle parking.
The station will also offer improved links to local walking and cycling networks, encouraging people to use more sustainable transport options.
“I’ve always said that a world-class transport network is key to unlocking the full potential of our region – and that’s exactly what we’re building. This new station at Liverpool Baltic is just another step on the journey towards making our Merseyrail system bigger, better, and more accessible for everyone.”
This project builds on the recent success of the Headbolt Lane Station, an 80 million GBP development in Kirkby, which opened last year and is served by battery-powered trains.
Additionally, Mayor Rotheram has announced plans for three more stations in Daresbury, Woodchurch, and Carr Mill, with construction set to begin by the end of the decade.
