A consortium consisting of Siemens Mobility and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has been contracted to provide rail electrification technologies for Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL).
These contracts cover the electrification of the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 line and the Surat Metro Phase 1 project in the western state of Gujarat, India.
Siemens Mobility’s share in these contracts is valued at approximately 75 million EUR.
“We are proud not only to supply our state-of-the-art technologies for both lines, but also our local know-how. India’s sustainable transformation of the transport sector is in full swing, and with both projects, in the cities of Surat and Ahmedabad, the local Mass Rapid Transit systems will develop into a world-class public transportation system for the people. This will be a huge advantage for travellers but also for the environment where technology strengthens sustainability.”
The first of these orders is for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2, which consists of two corridors covering more than 28 kilometres, with 23 stations and one depot.
The second is for Surat Metro Phase 1, which will be more than 40 kilometres long, serving 38 stations and featuring two depots.
In addition to providing electrification technologies, Siemens Mobility will also supply digital solutions such as its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for both metros in order to increase reliability, energy efficiency and productivity.
