From 1-3 August, Alstom is opening the doors to its Derby Litchurch Lane rolling stock factory to display both historic and modern trains at The Greatest Gathering.

The event is part of the Railway 200 celebrations, marking 200 years of Britain’s modern railway. Included on display is the Class 93 tri-mode locomotive built by Stadler and provided for the event by the Rail Operations Group.

This tri-mode locomotive was the first of its kind to operate in the UK. In electric mode, the Class 93 can run on 25kV AC overhead lines with a power up to 4,600kW. On non-electrified lines, it can use either its stage V 900kW engine or two lithium titanate oxide (LTO) traction battery packs as a power source.

The model has a hybrid coupler, which enables coupling either via a draw hook or through automatic coupling.

It is displayed at the event courtesy of Rail Operations Group. The advanced locomotives significantly reduce exhaust gas emissions for both freight and potential passenger services in the UK.
