GB Railfreight Invests £4.7 Million in New Maintenance Depot

GB Railfreight (GBRf) has invested 4.7 million GBP in a new maintenance depot in Peterborough alongside the UK’s East Coast Main Line.

The depot is being built by Cairn Cross Engineering and will create around 60 jobs during construction and 20 permanent jobs once the facility becomes operational in summer 2023.

The new maintenance hub is a central component of the rail freight provider’s ambitions to improve the safety and reliability of its wagon fleet. This will involve using smart sensor technology to quickly analyse wagon conditions and identify faults before problems arise.

Through this project, the new Peterborough maintenance hub will support GB Railfreight’s plans to operate 75 intermodal services a day by 2025.
