Le Havre Seine Métropole has selected Alstom to supply the next generation of trams for the expansion of its tramway network in northwest France.

The agreement, valid for four years, includes a minimum order of eight Citadis trams. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2027, coinciding with the opening of the new Line C.

The Citadis trams will reduce energy consumption by 25% compared to the existing fleet. They will be 33 metres long, 2.40 metres wide, and will accommodate up to 206 passengers.

Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France said:

Alstom is very proud to be supplying the new trams for Le Havre Metropole and to be taking part in strengthening the urban transport offer, with greener and more innovative solutions. These new energy-efficient Citadis trams will also provide greater comfort for passengers. We would like to thank Le Havre Seine Métropole for their renewed confidence in our latest generation tramway solutions.

The new trams will feature fully glazed doors for improved visibility, PRM-compliant elements such as optimally positioned door buttons, wider seating, and dedicated spaces for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Additional accessibility enhancements include:

  • 100% low-floor access for seamless boarding
  • Signature lighting inside and outside the vehicle, assisting passengers with visual impairments
  • Loudspeakers and acoustic signals to aid visually and hearing-impaired passengers
  • Air conditioning, dynamic passenger information systems, and onboard video protection for a safer journey

The trams are eco-designed, with 95% of materials recyclable and 98% reusable. They incorporate new engines, efficient climate management, and 100% LED lighting to optimise energy use.

Maintenance efficiency is improved through streamlined spare part selection and enhanced component accessibility, leading to a projected 16% reduction in preventive maintenance operations over their 30-year lifespan.

The manufacturing of these trams will involve ten of Alstom’s facilities in France.
