SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom have presented the interior design of the next-generation TGV INOUI, known as TGV M.
The TGV M represents the fifth generation of France’s high-speed train service. While the design process started afresh, it has been informed by experience gained from the four preceding generations. The focus has been on optimising passenger comfort, energy efficiency, and operational performance while ensuring adaptability to future technological and environmental requirements.

This development follows nearly a decade of collaboration between the two companies, supported by the French government through ADEME (Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Énergie) and SGPI (Secrétariat Général Pour l’Investissement). The TGV M project was initiated in 2016 and has incorporated expertise from specialists at Alstom and SNCF Voyageurs through an innovation partnership.
Key Features of the Interior Design
Increased Capacity: The TGV M offers an additional 20% seating capacity compared to current models, with modular seating arrangements allowing flexible configurations.
Enhanced Accessibility: The design includes improvements for passengers with reduced mobility, such as wider aisles, step-free access, and dedicated spaces.
Optimised Comfort: New ergonomic seating, improved lighting, and better noise insulation contribute to a more comfortable travel experience.
Digital Connectivity: Upgraded onboard digital services include enhanced Wi-Fi, individual USB and power sockets, and real-time travel information.
Sustainability Features: The TGV M is designed to consume 20% less energy per journey while maintaining high-speed performance. The use of recyclable materials has been prioritised in construction.

Innovation and Future Adaptability
The modularity of the TGV M allows it to be adapted to future technological advancements and changing passenger needs. The trainsets have been designed to support evolving digital and environmental standards, ensuring long-term operational efficiency.
SNCF Voyageurs plans to introduce the first TGV M trains into service in 2025. This rollout is expected to contribute to the modernisation of France’s high-speed rail network, aligning with national sustainability objectives and passenger expectations.
